The Wheeler House is a historic North Georgia wedding venue in Ball Ground, full of southern charm, with a restored 1906 home, a custom barn built for events, and wooded grounds shaded by old oak trees. What Couples Should Know About The Wheeler House
The house was built in 1906 by the owner of the Wheeler lumber yard, and the floors, walls, ceilings and two-story wrap-around porches are all heart pine. After a full restoration, the venue hosted its first wedding in 2011, and the barn followed in 2012. The whole property feels well thought out and nicely decorated, and every space is made for weddings.
The venue offers all-inclusive packages as well as micro wedding options, and it also rents three restored cottages nearby for overnight stays. Packages and inclusions change over time, so the Wheeler House investment page is the best place to check current details.
Getting Ready Photos at The Wheeler House
The bridal suite is one of the prettiest getting ready spaces we have worked in. It is decorated with wicker furnishings and charming southern style details, and the large claw foot tub is original to the house, which adds a lovely touch of history to detail photos and bridal portraits.
The groom and groomsmen get ready in their own climate-controlled suite in the barn, with plenty of room for changing and storing personal items. Guests can also enjoy the billiards room inside the house, and it makes for a great photo op with the guys before the ceremony.
The wrap-around porches are another favorite. There is room for a bridesmaid reveal in soft, even light, and the front of the house makes a classic backdrop for wedding party photos.
Ceremony Photos Under the Arbor
The outdoor ceremony space is beautiful. Couples can marry outside under the venue’s draped arbor with chandeliers, surrounded by trees, and the barn is also available for an indoor ceremony. Both options photograph well, and the outdoor setting gives us natural light and a leafy green backdrop for the vows, the ring exchange and the first moments as a married couple.
The Barn at The Wheeler House
The barn is one of our favorite parts of the property. It was custom built in 2012 as an event space, designed to have the romantic feel of a barn, and it has never been a working barn. The venue built it with reclaimed timbers, and it has central heat and air, so it stays comfortable in any season.
Inside, crystal chandeliers, draped fabric and warm wood beams give reception photos a soft, glowing look. The dance floor layout can be customized to your floor plan with help from the venue’s in-house coordinators, and the barn was planned to complement the historic home and the old oak trees around it.
Reception Photos: Cake Cutting and Dancing
With the dance floor at the center of the barn, it is easy to capture the cake cutting, toasts and a packed dance floor with the chandeliers and draping in the background.
Night Portraits and the Send-Off
After dark, the string lights over the brick path and the lit porches give the house a warm glow. A few minutes away from the reception is all it takes to round out the Wheeler House photos with portraits in front of the house in that evening light.

We started off the day with getting ready portraits at a nearby hotel with the groom & groomsmen. After that, we head over the wedding venue for the day – the Athens Cotton Press!
This venue has a super cool & industrial warehouse space!
Once we arrived, we began taking portraits with the bride & her 12 bridesmaids – followed by some solo bridal portraits.

After portraits concluded, we had some time to focus on all the finished wedding reception decor! As a dimly lit warehouse space, we had to add in additional lighting to get the best images!
We loved the hanging lanterns and hanging florals! The string lights also added a warm touch to this industrial wedding venue.

Because Athens Cotton Press is a dimly lit warehouse space, it is CRUCIAL to photograph with camera equipment that can handle the low light levels!
We loved the symmetry in this ceremony space!

Below are some of our favorite reason to take photos at the Marietta Courthouse & surrounding areas (like Marietta Square itself!)
1. There are Rustic Brick Walls Everywhere!
Bricks on bricks on bricks. In some areas, the GROUND is even made of bricks! If you’re looking for painted bricks, or bare/ exposed bricks, there are so many options to choose from right next to the Marietta Courthouse! Great for a rustic feel/ vibe for your photos.
2. The Marietta Mural at Marietta Square
The Marietta Courthouse is also right next to the giant Marietta Mural on Marietta Square! If you love an urban vibe for photos, love vibrant colors, or your first or last name begins with any of the letters – M, A, R, I, E, T, T, or A, you’ll love this! This particular spot it also right next to the train tracks that run through the square.
In addition to this mural, there are also several other great murals nearby!
3. The Gazebo!
This gazebo, located in the middle of the square, is perhaps one of the most often requested locations in a Marietta Courthouse photoshoot. If you happen to schedule your photo session on a weekend, it’s not uncommon to have to wait in line to take portraits in this spot! Because of this, we HIGHLY recommend scheduling a weekday session whenever you can! You’ll experience less wait times (or no wait times) and a much lesser crowded Marietta Square.
