Family Christmas Photography

Christmas Portraits With Room to Breathe

Family Christmas portraits are some of our favorite sessions of the year. As a family Christmas photographer, our team plans a full holiday session around your family, so little ones have time to warm up, grandparents can settle in, and there is room for both classic portraits by the tree and the candid moments in between. Our Christmas family photography blends guided, classic portraits with relaxed, natural moments, so the result is a collection that looks polished and still feels like your family, ready for your walls, your holiday cards and the albums you’ll pull out for years to come.

We photograph family Christmas portraits across Metro Atlanta, including in your own home, surrounded by your tree, your decorations and the traditions that make the season yours. Planning outfits? Our guide to family Christmas picture outfits covers color palettes and coordinating without matching.

Questions Families Ask

Family Christmas Portraits FAQ

Where should we take our family Christmas photos?

Many families love being photographed at home, in front of their own tree and surrounded by the decorations and traditions that make the season theirs. Others prefer an outdoor location or a styled holiday setting. On your planning call, we’ll talk through what you have in mind and recommend the setting that fits your family best.

Can you photograph our family Christmas portraits at home?

Yes. In-home Christmas sessions are some of our favorites: kids feel at ease in their own space, nobody has to bundle everyone into the car, and your tree, your decorations and your family dog all become part of the story. We bring professional lighting when your home calls for it, so your portraits look beautiful even on a gray December afternoon.

How much do family Christmas photos cost?

A full Christmas session starts with a $300 session retainer, which reserves your date and covers your planning call, your guided session and the editing of your photos. You choose your favorites at your Ordering Appointment, and most families invest around $1000. Weekday sessions, Monday through Thursday, have no minimum purchase, while weekend dates reserve with a minimum pre-purchase that goes toward your order. If you’d prefer a quicker, budget-friendly option, take a look at our Christmas mini sessions.

When should we take family Christmas photos?

Most families plan their Christmas portraits for November or early December, and the sooner you book, the more dates you have to choose from. Weekdays have the best availability during the busy holiday season. After your session, you schedule your Ordering Appointment, so booking earlier also leaves comfortable time to choose your favorites and order prints or cards.

Can our dog be in our family Christmas photos?

Absolutely. Dogs are welcome at in-home sessions and at outdoor locations, where there is room for them to explore between photos. Our guide to family photos with dogs has tips for keeping everyone relaxed.

Can extended family join our Christmas session?

Yes, and a full session is the best fit for it. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins can all join, with time for one or two big group photos plus the smaller groupings that matter most, like the grandkids together or each family on its own. Large groups take longer to arrange than most people expect, so we plan the order of groupings with you ahead of time. Our extended family photos guide has more ideas.

What should we wear for family Christmas photos?

Choose two or three colors that work well together and with your setting, then mix textures like knits, velvet and satin so everyone coordinates without matching. Before your session, you’re welcome to send us photos of outfit options and we’ll help you choose. Our guide to family Christmas picture outfits has palettes and ideas for every family member.

Should we book a mini session or a full Christmas session?

Christmas mini sessions are a quick, budget-friendly way to get a fresh family photo: 10 minutes on a styled indoor set with 5 edited photos included, for up to 6 people. A full Christmas session gives you more time, more variety and room for grandparents, larger groups and the family dog, at home or on a set. If you mainly need one beautiful photo for your holiday cards, a Christmas mini session is a great fit; if you would love a full collection of portraits for your walls and albums, a full session is the better choice.
