3 Reasons Why You Should Have Your Wedding Photos Done at the Marietta Courthouse
Below are some of our favorite reason to take photos at the Marietta Courthouse & surrounding areas (like Marietta Square itself!)
1. There are Rustic Brick Walls Everywhere!
Bricks on bricks on bricks. In some areas, the GROUND is even made of bricks! If you’re looking for painted bricks, or bare/ exposed bricks, there are so many options to choose from right next to the Marietta Courthouse! Great for a rustic feel/ vibe for your photos.
2. The Marietta Mural at Marietta Square
The Marietta Courthouse is also right next to the giant Marietta Mural on Marietta Square! If you love an urban vibe for photos, love vibrant colors, or your first or last name begins with any of the letters – M, A, R, I, E, T, T, or A, you’ll love this! This particular spot it also right next to the train tracks that run through the square.
In addition to this mural, there are also several other great murals nearby!
3. The Gazebo!
This gazebo, located in the middle of the square, is perhaps one of the most often requested locations in a Marietta Courthouse photoshoot. If you happen to schedule your photo session on a weekend, it’s not uncommon to have to wait in line to take portraits in this spot! Because of this, we HIGHLY recommend scheduling a weekday session whenever you can! You’ll experience less wait times (or no wait times) and a much lesser crowded Marietta Square.

Bringing a Photographer to Fulton County Magistrate Court
Couples arranging a wedding through the Magistrate Court of Fulton County must request advance approval before bringing a photographer or recording equipment into the courtroom. Complete and submit the Rule 11 Order form early enough to allow time for the judge’s review and signature.
The Rule 11 form instructs photographers to arrive at least 30 minutes early. Photography and filming are limited to the couple’s assigned ceremony, equipment placement is subject to approval by the Sheriff’s or Marshal’s office, and livestreaming is not permitted.
These requirements apply specifically to weddings arranged through the Magistrate Court. Other Fulton County courts, locations, or special ceremony programs may have different procedures.

How to Get a Marriage License in Pickens County
Marriage licenses are issued by Pickens County Probate Court at:

Marriage-license applications are accepted on normal business days between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
Both applicants must present photo identification and proof of age. Accepted proof-of-age documents include a certified birth certificate, passport, driver’s license, or military identification.
If either applicant was previously married, the court requires proof that the most recent marriage ended. Depending on the circumstances, this may be a filed final divorce decree or a certified death certificate. Documents that are not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation.
Georgia residents may apply for a marriage license in any Georgia county. If neither applicant is a Georgia resident, the license must be obtained in the county where the ceremony will take place. According to Pickens County’s official information, the license does not expire.
Pickens County Marriage-License Fees
The standard marriage-license fee is $76.
Couples who have completed at least six hours of qualifying premarital education may receive the reduced $36 fee. The counselor must complete the certificate provided by the Probate Court.

Processing fees apply to card payments. Certified copies of a recorded marriage license are available separately for $10.
Does Pickens County Probate Court Perform Weddings?
No. Pickens County’s official court website states that the Probate Court does not perform wedding ceremonies.
The Probate Court issues the marriage license, but couples are responsible for arranging a private ceremony with a qualified officiant. Your paperwork and ceremony may therefore happen in two different places.
