Dallas Wedding Photographers | Dallas Arts District Photos
We were so excited to fly out yesterday for Laura & Larry’s engagement photos! Before making the trip, Laura mentioned she wanted engagement images with more of a cityscape feel. After consulting our Dallas wedding photographers friends and looking at tons of Dallas Arts District photos, we realized it would be the PERFECT venue for us! Here are a couple of sneak peeks from the session below.
Capturing engagement photos at home offers a unique and personal touch to your engagement session. Your home is a space filled with memories and comfort, making it an ideal backdrop for authentic and heartfelt photos. Whether you live in a cozy apartment, a spacious house, or a charming cottage, your home provides a setting that is distinctly yours.
Why Choose to Take Engagement Photos at Home?
One of the primary reasons to choose your home for engagement photos is the comfort and familiarity it provides. Being in a space where you feel at ease allows you and your partner to relax and be yourselves, resulting in natural and genuine photos. Additionally, engagement photos at home can reflect your daily life and personal style, adding a unique and intimate element to your photos.
Taking engagement photos at home also offers flexibility in terms of styling and settings. You can incorporate meaningful elements from your daily life, such as your pets, favorite books, or cozy blankets, to add a personal touch to your photos. Indoor spaces, as well as any outdoor areas like your garden or patio, can be used creatively to capture a variety of shots.
Photographic Opportunities for Engagement Photos at Home
Engagement photos at home provide endless opportunities for creativity and personalization. You can use different rooms and settings within your home to capture a range of moods and styles. For instance, a cozy living room can be perfect for intimate and relaxed shots, while a well-lit kitchen or dining area can provide a bright and cheerful backdrop.
Outdoor spaces, such as a backyard or balcony, can also add a beautiful natural element to your photos. The versatility of your home setting allows for both candid moments and posed shots, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive engagement photo session.
Choosing to take engagement photos at home not only highlights your personal space but also creates a collection of images that are truly meaningful and reflective of your life together. The authenticity and warmth of home engagement photos make them a timeless choice for celebrating your love story.
Another throw back from the past! A little late in getting these Shutterfest 2015 images up from William Innes‘ class – but better late than never! Atlanta wedding photographers always get so excited when they get to travel outside of the city. For Shutterfest this past year, we got to travel all the way to St. Louis, MO for some AWESOME photography education. You probably can’t tell from the pictures, but we had an amazing time learning about using VIDEO during engagement sessions. Below are a couple of fun images we got to take during the class as well as a couple of behind the scene shots!
Special thanks to our lovely models!
Michael Anthony ice lighting our model!
Shooting over all the other photographers’ heads in class, I actually don’t mind how this one below turned out….
William Innes showing off his bag of mirrorless camera goodies above. I’m so jealous.
And look at those AMAZING clouds! We couldn’t have asked for a better day to shoot.
William Innes resembles like Phil Dunphy from Modern Family, don’t you think???
Overall, we had a blast at Shutterfest this year. Can’t wait to go to Shutterfest 2016!

There’s something undeniably cinematic about engagement pictures in the rain—the way soft raindrops catch the light, the romance of sharing an umbrella, or the dramatic effect of water glistening on the pavement. It’s no wonder couples are drawn to the idea of a rain-kissed engagement session.
However, while rain can create a beautiful mood, an actual rainy-day session comes with challenges—unpredictable weather, damp clothes, and limited posing opportunities. Fortunately, there are better, more controlled ways to achieve the same stunning aesthetic without sacrificing comfort or photo quality.
In this guide, we’ll explore the best ways to get gorgeous rain-inspired engagement photos, alternative locations that offer a similar look, and how to plan a session that captures all the romance of rain—without the downsides of a stormy day.
The Challenges of Photographing in the Rain
Before we dive into creative alternatives, let’s talk about why engagement pictures in the rain aren’t always ideal for a photo session.
1. Unpredictable Weather Can Disrupt Your Session
A light drizzle can quickly turn into a heavy downpour, making it difficult to plan a smooth and stress-free engagement session. Sudden weather changes may:
Limit available locations due to flooding or muddy conditions.
Make styling difficult, as hair, makeup, and outfits may not hold up well.
Reduce comfort, making it harder to relax and enjoy the moment.
2. Natural Rain is Hard to Control
In movies, rain is carefully controlled with lighting and mist machines to create a magical look. In reality, natural rain often falls unevenly, creating patchy wet spots or making skin and clothing appear soaked rather than elegant.
3. Rain Can Affect Lighting & Photo Quality
A soft overcast sky can be flattering, but dark storm clouds or heavy rain can reduce natural light, leading to dull or underexposed images. Additionally, wet surfaces can create reflections that are difficult to control without professional lighting setups.
4. Professional Camera Equipment is Not Waterproof
As much as we’d love to capture every romantic moment, our cameras, lenses, and lighting gear aren’t built for open-rain conditions. To ensure the best possible engagement photos, we recommend alternative ways to achieve the rain aesthetic without putting your photos—or your experience—at risk.
The Best Ways to Capture a Rainy-Day Engagement Aesthetic
If you love the idea of engagement pictures in the rain, here are better, more controlled ways to achieve the look you want while ensuring a comfortable, stress-free session.
1. Rain Studios & Rain Rooms – The Best of Both Worlds
For couples who want dramatic, rain-soaked portraits without the unpredictability of weather, rain studios or rain rooms are a perfect solution.
Water is fully controlled, allowing for elegant, movie-like rain effects.
Lighting is professionally managed to highlight raindrops without creating unwanted shadows.
The rain can be turned on and off, giving you flexibility to capture different styles of images.
This setup allows for beautiful, cinematic engagement photos that look just as dreamy—if not better—than natural rain.
2. Covered Outdoor Locations – Stay Dry While Capturing the Rain
For couples who still want an outdoor session while incorporating natural rainfall, choosing a covered location allows us to photograph the rain without getting wet.
Great options include:
Bridges & Overpasses – A perfect way to stay dry while using the rain as a stunning background.
Gazebos & Pavilions – Ideal for cozy, intimate rain-inspired photos.
Downtown Areas with Overhangs – Urban environments often have awnings that let us capture city lights reflecting on wet pavement.
3. Indoor Spaces with Rain-Inspired Aesthetics
If you love the moodiness of rain but don’t want to risk an outdoor session, indoor locations with water features can create an elegant and artistic effect.
Consider:
Glass Greenhouses – Rain droplets on glass create a stunning, dreamy backdrop.
Indoor Pools & Water Walls – These settings offer a controlled environment with reflective water surfaces.
Misty Window Backdrops – Perfect for capturing the cozy, romantic side of rainy-day portraits.
4. Post-Rain Engagement Sessions – Capture the Magic Without the Rainfall
Instead of photographing in the rain, we can schedule your engagement session immediately after a rainstorm, when the ground is still wet, the air is misty, and puddles create stunning reflections.
Avoids getting soaked while still capturing a “just-rained” effect.
Beautiful lighting as the sun breaks through the clouds post-rain.
Natural reflections in puddles add an artistic, whimsical feel.
This is a fantastic way to achieve the romantic rain look without the discomfort of an actual downpour.
5. Styling Tips for a Rainy-Aesthetic Engagement Session
Want to enhance the rainy-day vibe? Consider adding these details for a unique and stylish engagement session:
Clear Umbrellas – A classic way to create that dreamy, romantic rain effect.
Rain Boots & Cozy Layers – Adds personality while keeping you warm and comfortable.
Long Flowing Dresses – Captures movement beautifully in a soft breeze or misty atmosphere.
Final Thoughts – How to Get the Best Engagement Pictures in the Rain
While engagement pictures in the rain can be beautiful, a fully outdoor rainy-day session isn’t always the best experience. To ensure you feel your best and receive the highest-quality photos, we strongly recommend scheduling on a clear day. If rain is in the forecast, our inclement weather policy allows for rescheduling or selecting a covered location to ensure a smooth, enjoyable experience.
The best solutions include:
Rain studios & rain rooms for cinematic rain effects in a controlled setting.
Covered locations that allow us to photograph you while staying dry.
Indoor spaces with reflective water elements for an artistic, rain-inspired feel.
Post-rain sessions that capture misty, romantic lighting without the inconvenience of an active downpour.
