The Comfort and Intimacy of Home

Capturing engagement photos at home offers a unique and personal touch to your engagement session. Your home is a space filled with memories and comfort, making it an ideal backdrop for authentic and heartfelt photos. Whether you live in a cozy apartment, a spacious house, or a charming cottage, your home provides a setting that is distinctly yours.

Why Choose to Take Engagement Photos at Home?

One of the primary reasons to choose your home for engagement photos is the comfort and familiarity it provides. Being in a space where you feel at ease allows you and your partner to relax and be yourselves, resulting in natural and genuine photos. Additionally, engagement photos at home can reflect your daily life and personal style, adding a unique and intimate element to your photos.

Taking engagement photos at home also offers flexibility in terms of styling and settings. You can incorporate meaningful elements from your daily life, such as your pets, favorite books, or cozy blankets, to add a personal touch to your photos. Indoor spaces, as well as any outdoor areas like your garden or patio, can be used creatively to capture a variety of shots.

Photographic Opportunities for Engagement Photos at Home

Engagement photos at home provide endless opportunities for creativity and personalization. You can use different rooms and settings within your home to capture a range of moods and styles. For instance, a cozy living room can be perfect for intimate and relaxed shots, while a well-lit kitchen or dining area can provide a bright and cheerful backdrop.

Outdoor spaces, such as a backyard or balcony, can also add a beautiful natural element to your photos. The versatility of your home setting allows for both candid moments and posed shots, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive engagement photo session.

Choosing to take engagement photos at home not only highlights your personal space but also creates a collection of images that are truly meaningful and reflective of your life together. The authenticity and warmth of home engagement photos make them a timeless choice for celebrating your love story.

Charles H. Morris Center Wedding Photos: Essential Tips for Your Savannah Reception

Charles H. Morris Center Wedding Photos: Essential Tips for Your Savannah Reception

Charles H. Morris Center ballroom in Savannah set for a wedding reception, with exposed brick walls, a wood-beamed ceiling and hanging globe string lights

Planning a Charles H. Morris Center wedding? The Charles H. Morris Center at Trustees’ Garden is a historic event venue at 10 East Broad Street in downtown Savannah, Georgia. Its main ballroom has exposed brick walls, a tall wood-beamed ceiling and a full stage, and it seats up to 300 guests. You can find current details, availability and event options on the Charles H. Morris Center’s official venue page at Trustees’ Garden.

We have photographed a wedding reception in this ballroom. When we were there, hanging globe string lights filled the room and gave the whole space a fun, glowing look. Décor and fixtures can change over time, so ask the venue team how the room is set up today. This guide covers what couples should know about the space, how to plan for reception lighting, and how to build a timeline that gives you beautiful Charles H. Morris Center wedding photos from the first dance to the last song.

About the Charles H. Morris Center at Trustees’ Garden

The Charles H. Morris Center is part of Trustees’ Garden, a historic property in downtown Savannah with roots in the 1700s. According to the venue, the space includes:

  • A 3,600-square-foot main ballroom that seats up to 300 guests, with a full stage, sound and lighting system
  • An adjoining 2,400-square-foot outdoor tented space
  • A 900-square-foot catering kitchen and prep space, plus an 800-square-foot flex room

Trustees’ Garden also hosts larger events in the Metal Building at Kehoe Iron Works, which the venue lists for up to 1,000 people. For couples booking hotel rooms, the Kimpton Brice Hotel describes the Morris Center as its neighboring event space, a short two-minute walk from the hotel.

What Couples Should Know

The ballroom is a warm, industrial-style space. Red brick walls wrap the room, rich wood beams run across the ceiling, and a wide wood floor leaves plenty of room for dancing. It works well for large receptions, and the stage gives your band or DJ a natural focal point for toasts and dances.

A few things to keep in mind as you plan:

  • The room sets the evening mood. At the reception we photographed, globe string lights, candlelit lanterns and gold chargers made the brick glow. Your décor and lighting choices will shape the look of your photos as much as the architecture does.
  • Guest count guides the layout. With seating for up to 300, the ballroom can hold long farm tables, round tables or a mix. A clear path around the dance floor helps us move quickly during toasts and dances.
  • Details can change. Capacity, catering and vendor policies are set by the venue, so confirm the current details directly with the Trustees’ Garden team.

Lighting the Ballroom for Reception Photos

The main ballroom has a warm, intimate evening ambiance, set by its stage lighting, uplighting and the décor you bring in. That glow is a big part of the room’s charm, and professional lighting is what carries it into your photos with true skin tones and crisp faces. Uplighting adds color to the brick and the room; it does not light people.

One of the most important questions to ask any photographer you are considering for a Charles H. Morris Center wedding is how they light receptions. Look for someone skilled with professional lighting as well as natural light, who knows how to add supplemental light and place it so the room still looks and feels like your evening. Ask to see a full reception gallery, from the grand entrance through the last dance.

We bring professional lighting to every wedding, and our team is very comfortable with both speedlights and constant lights. We typically bring four to five speedlights to each event and use them on the dance floor to freeze the action. Off-camera flash lights you and your guests while keeping the ambiance of the room, and LED constant lights help with décor, details and quieter moments. You can see our full lighting kit on our equipment page and read more about how we approach evening receptions in our guide to wedding photography at night.

Timeline Tips for Your Savannah Wedding Day

Since your reception will be an indoor evening celebration, plan your daylight portraits for earlier in the day. At one Savannah wedding we photographed, the day moved across the city: getting ready at the Kimpton Brice Hotel, a ceremony at a church in Savannah, portraits among the oaks at Wormsloe Historic Site, and the reception here at the Charles H. Morris Center.

A few timeline ideas that help:

  • Build in travel time. If your ceremony or portraits are at another location, give yourselves a buffer for Savannah traffic and parking between stops.
  • Consider a first look. Seeing each other before the ceremony opens up more daylight for portraits. Our first look guide walks through how it works.
  • Plan a few minutes for sunset. If the timing works, stepping outside near sunset for a few portraits adds natural light to a gallery that will be mostly evening reception photos.
  • Share your priorities. Tell us which moments and family groupings matter most, and we will help structure the timeline around them.
