The Cedars in Acworth is a historic home on a few beautifully kept acres in Acworth’s historic district. With its white columns, wide front steps, gardens and mature trees, it feels like stepping into a classic Southern estate, and both the house and the grounds photograph beautifully.
If you know the venue by its former name, Cedar Plantation, you are in the right place. Here is what couples should know about planning a wedding at The Cedars, from the ceremony to night portraits.

About The Cedars (Formerly Cedar Plantation)
The house was built in 1870, and it later became home to the Abbott family for about a century. Mrs. Abbott named it The Cedars for the large cedar trees on the property, and the venue has returned to that historic name after years as Cedar Plantation. The home became a wedding and event venue in 1998, and it has been thoughtfully renovated and updated over the years.
Inside, a ballroom with chandeliers, tall windows and a grand staircase gives you an elegant indoor option. Outside, magnolias, manicured gardens and a garden ceremony area surround the house.
A Ceremony in Front of the House
One of our favorite setups at The Cedars is a ceremony in front of the house, with the white columns and front steps as the backdrop. It is a gorgeous frame for the ceremony, and it works especially well for couples who want a simple, elegant setup with the home as the star.
The front steps put the two of you just above your guests, so everyone has a clear view, and the wide photos show off the whole house.
Gardens and Grounds for Portraits
The grounds give you plenty of portrait spots right on the property. Garden paths, the covered entrance, French doors and colorful trees in the fall all make lovely backdrops.
Indoor Spaces at The Cedars
The house is just as beautiful inside as it is outside. Elegant parlors and the ballroom give you options for portraits, cocktail hour and getting-ready photos, and they are a great backup if the weather does not cooperate.
Family and Wedding Party Portraits
The front walk and porch fit large groups, and the house behind everyone gives family photos a timeless look. We like to photograph families right after the ceremony while everyone is gathered out front.
Reception Options: Ballroom or Tent
The Cedars offers flexibility for receptions. For smaller weddings, the ballroom can hold dinner and dancing indoors. For larger guest counts, couples can add a tent behind the house, which gives everyone room to celebrate under string lights.
The house and gardens suit formal celebrations especially well. Black tie attire, candlelight and lush white florals look right at home here.
A Black Tie Celebration Under the Tent
Once the sun goes down, a tented reception glows with string lights. Glow sticks, a lively entrance and a packed dance floor make for some of the most energetic photos of the night, and we bring lighting to keep everyone looking their best.
Night Portraits at The Cedars
The house looks stunning lit up at night. Lamp posts along the drive and the glowing windows behind you make a beautiful setting for a few evening portraits. Plan five to ten minutes during the reception to step outside with us. Our guide to wedding photography at night shows how we light these moments.
Timeline Tips
In the fall, the sun sets earlier than many couples expect, so plan the ceremony time with portraits in mind. A ceremony an hour or so before sunset leaves time for family photos out front and sunset portraits on the grounds before the reception begins. Our timeline planning guide can help you map it out.
