Big Door Vineyards Photos: Beautiful Wedding and Engagement Photo Spots

by

Looking for Big Door Vineyards photos before you plan a session or your wedding? Big Door Vineyards is a working vineyard and winery in White, Georgia, where the team makes its own wine on site. It’s one of the closer vineyards to Atlanta, and the grounds pack a lot of variety into one visit: long rows of vines, a waterfall and rock garden, a timber-frame building with ornate iron doors, a covered pavilion by the lake, and lily pads and cattails along the water.

Below you’ll find Big Door Vineyards photos from a wedding portrait session and engagement sessions we’ve photographed there, along with our favorite photo spots on the property and tips for planning your own session.

Big Door Vineyards Wedding Portraits

A wedding portrait session at Big Door Vineyards gives you time to enjoy the whole property in your wedding attire, with room to wander between the vines, the gardens and the pavilion at an easy pace. These photos follow one session from the garden by the Big Door Vineyards sign, through the vineyard rows and past the timber-frame building, to golden hour in the covered pavilion by the lake.

Our Favorite Big Door Vineyards Photo Spots

The Big Door winery offers a wide mix of backdrops within a short walk of each other, so one session can include the vines, the water and the gardens. These are the spots we return to most.

The Big Door Vineyards Sign and Garden

The Big Door Vineyards sign sits on a hillside garden of evergreens, flowers and stone, with a bench right in front of it. It’s the most recognizable spot on the property and a great place to start, since it shows everyone exactly where your photos were taken. The bench and seasonal decor change from visit to visit, which keeps this spot feeling fresh.

The Timber-Frame Building and Iron Doors

The timber-frame building near the gardens has tall glass walls and a pair of ornate iron and wood doors. The doors make a striking, symmetrical frame for a couple, and the warm wood beams add texture to full-length portraits.

The Vineyard Rows

Walking between the vines is a favorite for relaxed, candid photos. In fall, the leaves turn gold and the late-day sun glows through them, and the rows lead the eye right to the two of you. The grapes on the vine make a sweet backdrop for ring photos too.

The Waterfall and Rock Garden

Just beside the sign garden, a waterfall spills over the rocks, framed by evergreens and barrel planters. The moving water adds life to the background, and the rock garden gives us layers of texture close to the couple.

Open Lawns

Grassy open areas near the vines are perfect for walking photos and full-length portraits, with plenty of room to move and trees in the background.

The Covered Pavilion by the Lake

The covered pavilion sits right at the water’s edge, almost like a covered dock, with a wood deck, open sides and string lights under the roof. At sunset it’s one of the prettiest spots on the property (see the golden-hour wedding portrait above), and the roof offers shade on bright afternoons. From across the lake, the pavilion also makes a lovely backdrop for photos on the grassy bank, with lily pads floating in front of you.

Lily Pads and Cattails

The lake is dotted with lily pads, which add soft color and a peaceful, storybook feel to photos by the water. Along the shoreline, tall cattails and grasses catch the late afternoon light and frame couples with soft texture, with rolling hills behind them.

The Little Wooden Bridge

A tiny wooden bridge on the property is a charming spot for a quick walking photo or a sweet moment together as you explore.

String Lights and Gravel Paths

Gravel paths wind through the property, and the last time we visited they were lined with string lights that glow warmly as the sun goes down. Seasonal details like the lights can change, so we’ll check what’s in place when we plan your session.

Planning Your Big Door Vineyards Photos

Fall is a beautiful time at Big Door Vineyards in White, GA, when the vines turn gold and the hills around the property warm up with color. Spring brings fresh green growth to the vines and gardens.

For the softest light, plan your session within a few hours of sunrise or sunset. If midday fits your plans best, we bring a lighting assistant to balance the bright sun, so your photos still look natural and flattering.

The Big Door winery is open to the public for tastings, so it helps to think about when the property is likely to be busy. Weekdays (Monday through Thursday) are often quieter, which gives you more space to relax and more of the property to yourselves. Check the current hours on the Big Door Vineyards website when choosing a time.

Big Door Vineyards is privately owned, so always check with the venue before planning a portrait session or proposal there. It’s a quick step that lets the team know your plans and confirms current policies, including whether a photography fee applies. Our inclement weather policy explains how we handle a change in the forecast.

Planning a Proposal at Big Door Vineyards

Big Door Vineyards is also a lovely place to propose, with open spaces that let us capture the moment from several angles. See a real proposal and our planning tips in our guide to planning a Big Door Vineyards proposal.

"We had a great experience! Jaimie guided us through our engagement session with such ease. She spent time prior over the phone and via email educating us on how to not only pick our outfits but how to make our poses not ‘pose-y’. Our engagement shoot seemed to only last a few minutes, it was never awkward and I know both my fiance and I loved it. Jaimie gave us direction while still allowing our personalities to shine through! Definitely would recommend her to anyone!"

My fiancé and I are clueless in front of the camera but Jaimie guided us the whole way through and it was much less uncomfortable than we were expecting! ... She was so well organized throughout the entire process of scheduling, preparing, and executing the engagement photos and it was very evident that she has a lot of experience... So glad we chose Jaimie for our engagement photos!"
