Not feeling accomplished in life? Learn how to feel accomplished.
Entrepreneur life is hard. Being a full time Atlanta wedding photographer and working for myself is hard. I get to sleep in as much as I want, do my work from bed all day and do what I want when I want. See what I mean???
I don’t know about other photographers/ entrepreneurs, but I’ve known this about myself for a while – I crave order in my life. I love being organized and super productive. I love being on top of my shit. It’s come to my attention lately that when I have TOO much freedom and TOO much time, things get a little chaotic.
Lately it’s been hard to get out of bed in the mornings if I don’t have a client appointment or a reason to get out of bed. It’s been hard to work from my home office because I never fully unpacked it and it’s been a mess since we’ve moved here.
I decided to spend a couple minutes writing this morning about the things I’ve done in the past that I know make me feel more accomplished in hopes to do these things more regularly and more cognitively.
I asked myself this question –
What makes you feel accomplished?
I answered with…
I feel more accomplished when I wake up early in the morning and get things done with my day
I feel more accomplished when I work out at the start of my day
I feel more accomplished when I get dressed in the mornings
I feel more accomplished when I eat better (actually eat breakfast, make breakfast smoothies, etc)
I feel more accomplished when I use my standing desk and get work DONE
I feel more accomplished when I’m working toward a specific goal (have something to do with my day)
I feel more accomplished when I work in a clean and tidy environment
I then proceeded to write a list of things I’ve done in the past that I know make me feel like a particularly lazy unaccomplished person. I don’t particularly care to share this list online, but the idea is simple.
So what’s the importance of FEELING accomplished?
When I feel accomplished, I feel better about myself. It boosts my self confidence and makes me feel like a happier person in general.
My take away from this –
- Create a list of things that you have done in the past that make you feel accomplished.
- Create a list of things that you have done in the past that make you feel unaccomplished.
- Make it a point to do more things on the first list than the second list.
The end result = feelings of confidence, happiness, and being on top of shit.
So here’s my question to you. What are you doing when you feel the most accomplished? What little things have you done in your day that make you feel like you’ve done something with your day?
